Confluent to Host Inaugural Conference for the Apache Kafka Community in San Francisco on April 26, 2016
PALO ALTO, Calif.—Dec. 3, 2015—Confluent, founded by the original creators of Apache™ Kafka®, today announced that Early Bird registration is open for the inaugural Apache Kafka Summit, set to take place on April 26, 2016, at the Hilton Union Square in San Francisco. Register for a discounted rate before January 15, 2016, at www.kafka-summit.org.
The conference will bring together the Apache Kafka community, where attendees will engage with experts, core committers and leading production users of Kafka, stream processing frameworks and related projects. Attendees will learn where project development is headed and how companies are using Kafka for large-scale, real-time data integration and stream processing, in a variety of applications.
“Apache Kafka has quickly become the de facto standard for managing high-volume streams of data from websites, sensor networks, system monitoring and a wide array of other sources, and Kafta Summit will showcase the latest innovations in stream processing,” said Jay Kreps, CEO and co-founder of Confluent. “We’re excited to bring together what will be the largest gathering of Kafka users and contributors to date, to a conference that will provide them a platform to share their ideas and experiences, and drive the future development of Kafka.”
On the day before the Summit, Confluent will offer a half-day tutorial, Introduction to Apache Kafka, designed for those new to Kafka. During this hands-on session, participants will become familiar with the fundamentals of Kafka and the Confluent platform, and will gain practical experience building an application that can publish data to, and receive data from, Kafka.
The call for proposals is open through January 11, 2016. Sessions will be organized within the following tracks:
Development track: This track will be about the design and implementation of tools created to leverage Kafka’s ability to handle massive amounts of data with low latency—anything from stream processing frameworks to integration with systems for query processing, logging, and metrics, to data connectors.
Operations track: This track will focus on Kafka operations and will include examples of, and recommendations on, tooling and monitoring for Kafka administration. Speakers will address common Kafka problems and workarounds, and will discuss best practices for the deployment of Kafka on-premise as well as in the cloud.
Applications track: This track will address key considerations for application developers and data scientists in their use of Kafka, using both real-world case studies and deep discussions of architecture topics, design patterns, and integration tools and techniques.

Apache Kafka is an open source technology that acts as a real-time, fault tolerant, highly scalable messaging system. It is widely adopted for use cases ranging from collecting user activity data, logs, application metrics, stock ticker data and device instrumentation. Its key strength is its ability to make high volume data available as a real-time stream for consumption in systems with very different requirements—from batch systems like Hadoop, to real-time systems that require low-latency access, to stream processing engines that transform the data streams as they arrive. This infrastructure lets you build around a single central nervous system transmitting messages to all the different systems and applications within an company.
Confluent, founded by the original creators of Apache™ Kafka®, enables organizations to harness business value from stream data. The Confluent Platform manages the barrage of stream data and makes it available throughout an organization. It provides various industries, from retail, logistics and manufacturing, to financial services and online social networking, a scalable, unified, real-time data pipeline that enables applications ranging from large volume data integration to big data analysis with Hadoop to real-time stream processing. Backed by Benchmark, Data Collective, Index Ventures and LinkedIn, Confluent is based in Palo Alto. To learn more, please visitwww.confluent.io.
